45-year-old Nadia Ceoldo, an architect from the Veneto region, has created the best tiramisu in the world. This weekend she won the eighth edition of the Tiramisu World Championship in Treviso. With the classic recipe of ladyfingers, mascarpone, eggs, coffee, cocoa powder and sugar, she defeated 240 competitors from all over the world.
The participants competed in two categories: in one group the traditional tiramisu had to be prepared, while in the second group creative variations were also allowed, such as with strawberries or green tea.
Tiramisu with orange jam
In the creative desserts category, 44-year-old Isabella Bucciol from Portogruaro in northern Italy won. Her tiramisu with liquorice powder and orange jam earned her the title in this category.
All participants received ladyfingers, mascarpone, eggs, cocoa and sugar. The ladyfingers are sprinkled with cold espresso, flavored with Marsala or Amaretto. The dessert is kept in the refrigerator for several hours to set. Before serving, the dessert is generously sprinkled with cocoa powder.
The award was dedicated to pastry chef Roberto Linguanotto, who worked in Treviso in the 1960s and 1970s and is considered the inventor of tiramisu. He died in July at the age of 94.
