Why did a Croat from Linz (44) want to kidnap his wife to Croatia with the help of his sons? The investigators from Linz still have to clarify this, but thanks to a courageous witness who filmed the kidnappers, the 43-year-old was released after a journey of about 240 kilometers.
A witness captured a broad daylight kidnapping in Linz on his mobile phone and was able to secure the release of a 43-year-old woman from Linz! On Thursday, shortly before 10:00, the victim was dragged into a car by his husband at his home in the south of the capital, supported by his two sons (17, 18). The younger son got into the car while the older son stayed in the apartment.
A son arrested in Linz
The police, alerted by the witness, were able to arrest the 18-year-old in his hometown, but his father (44) and brother were already on their way south with their mother, into the mountains. According to initial information, the Croatian-born man from Linz wanted to take his wife to her old homeland against her will.
The plan almost worked
The plan also seemed to work, the kidnappers had already passed the toll booths at Bosruck and the Gleinalmtunnel (Stemk.) on the Pyhrnautobahn when a mobile phone belonging to the car occupants was found near Graz.
After nearly 240 kilometers of escape and only 40 kilometers from the Slovenian border, Styrian police officers were able to stop the car with the three occupants at the Schachenwald exit of the highway south of Graz. The woman was released and the men were taken into custody. The interviews took place on Thursday evening.
