North Korea fired another ballistic missile on Monday, according to South Korean information. The country had fired a number of missiles in recent weeks and said it had also tested a nuclear drone underwater.
The government in Pyongyang fired two ballistic missiles at sea off the east coast of North Hwanghae province at 7:47 a.m. (local time), the South Korean military said Monday.
Japan’s Coast Guard confirmed that two missiles, believed to be rockets fired by North Korea, fell in an area most likely outside Japan’s exclusive economic zone, Japanese media reported. The missiles had a range of 350 kilometers and reached an altitude of 50 kilometers.
US and South Korean Military Maneuvers
On Thursday, the United States and South Korea concluded their largest joint military maneuver in the region in the past five years. The communist leadership in Pyongyang describes such maneuvers as preparations for an invasion of North Korea and responds with increased missile testing.
Pyongyang declares itself an ‘irreversible nuclear power’
Last year, North Korea conducted a record number of weapons tests and declared itself an “irreversible nuclear power”. Ruler Kim Jong-un called for a significant increase in weapons production, including tactical nuclear weapons.
