Volkswagen Navarre stop producing the pool next year and will thus open two years of uncertainty until the start of production, in 2026, of the first electric car.

Carlos Zalduendo, factory works council representative for CCOO, explained that the VW management informed them on Tuesday what had been unofficially known for months: that after 40 years, the Polo model will no longer be produced in Navarre in 2024.

The management spoke to you on Tuesday about this transition process to the electric car, with two circumstances that will mainly affect the reduction in production, the first forced by the necessary shutdowns to adapt the factory itself to the new facilities and processes for the electric car. car, a transition that would begin as early as 2024.

The second concern stems from European regulations on emissions limits that will come into force in 2025, for which staff are asking for a moratorium, understanding that the necessary investments by manufacturers to adapt to the standard will require a reduction in the production.

“In any case, we have to work with the scenarios that may arise and it is very likely that in 2024 we will have extensive periods of factory shutdowns in the summer and winter, and that we will also close one day a week, Friday before and we don’t cover the entire weekly production,” explains Zalduendo.

In this regard, he committed to the work of the commission to “seek mechanisms that regulate this situation and find the solutions we need”, although he is more optimistic about the end of that period because in 2026 “the scenario for the plant will be better than the one we have now. There will be more employment and we hope the scenario is good, we are working on that,” he said.
