The government of France has proposed to hold a meeting with the unions next week to try to reach a further position on the pension reform.
The cabinet of the French Prime Minister, Elisabeth Borne, has sent an invitation to the main trade unions, raising possible appointments on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday. According to sources close to the leader, “no agenda has been set,” reports the channel BFMTV.
The leader of the French Democratic Confederation of Labor (CFDT), Laurent Berger, has made it clear that they will take their recurring complaints about the new law to heart. “Can you imagine that at a time of very strong protest against the pension reform, the representatives of the trade union organizations would talk to the Prime Minister about something else?” he asked in an interview with Franceinfo.
The unions will look for a “way out” of the crisis, although the positions of the parties seem irreconcilable. The government has ruled out rewriting the text, while workers’ representatives are at least calling for the suspension of the measures they deem most harmful, including postponing 62 to 64 days of retirement age.
Yesterday, Tuesday, on the tenth day of mobilization against the pension reform, the trade unions proposed “mediation” to the Macron government. However, the French government rejected the proposal.
