Hotels too expensive: – London wants to accommodate asylum seekers on ships

Date:

Great Britain also wants to accommodate asylum seekers on ships in the future and thus significantly reduce costs. Formerly staying in hotels entails “high costs for the taxpayer”, Justice Minister Dominic Raab justified on Wednesday.

“We will look at the full range of options, low cost accommodation, former army barracks and where applicable and how it is done elsewhere in Europe. Ships when they can be used safely and responsibly,” Raab told the BBC.

Daily shelter accommodations cost millions
According to its own statements, Britain currently pays 6.8 million pounds (7.73 million euros) a day for hotels where migrants stay. According to a study by the Independent Commission for Aid Impact, a third of the UK’s development aid budget is spent supporting refugees and asylum seekers in the UK. As a result, aid for natural disasters abroad is suffering, it said.

According to the media, newly arrived migrants will initially be accommodated at two air bases. But this is also causing unrest within the cabinet: Secretary of State James Cleverly has criticized the planned use of a base in his constituency.

Sharp asylum plans from the government
The conservative government wants to use all its power against unwanted migrants. A controversial law stipulates that anyone who arrives illegally must be detained for weeks and then deported to Rwanda or other countries. The right to seek asylum should be denied to them. Prime Minister Rishi Sunak rejects exemptions for children.

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and the Council of Europe’s Human Rights Commissioner have strongly criticized the project.
