Portrait of Youth – Berlusconi musical premieres in London

A musical about the former Prime Minister of Italy, Silvio Berlusconi, is premiering in London. “Berlusconi” portrays the former Italian prime minister from his childhood as a musician aboard cruise ships to his political debut in 1994.

The play will premiere from Wednesday evening at the Southwark Playhouse theater in London. The spotlight is on the many stages of Berlusconi’s career as an entrepreneur and politician, as well as his friendships with celebrities such as Russian President Vladimir Putin, played by actor Gavin Wilkinson. Sebastien Torkia, who previously appeared in the musical Mamma Mia, will play the role of the former Italian prime minister.

The musical revolves around how Berlusconi deals with power. Music and lyrics are by Ricky Simmonds and Simon Vaughan, who have been writing musicals together for years and met as children on the set of Grange Hill, a British children’s television series. You will hear different pieces of music such as “For Italy”, “Bunga Bunga”, “Luckily there is Silvio” and “My Weekend with Wladimir”. The show was produced by Francesca Moody, who is responsible for the great success of the TV series ‘Fleabag’ known by Phoebe Waller-Bridge.

Berlusconi was already the main character of the film “Loro” by the Italian director Paolo Sorrentino. In it, the Oscar winner denounces Berlusconi’s life between 2006 and 2010. The 86-year-old is currently the chairman of Forza Italia. On Monday, he was admitted to a hospital in Milan due to pain. He was expected to be released on Wednesday. In recent years, the politician has often been in hospitals, including due to a serious urinary tract infection and bilateral pneumonia as a result of a Covid 19 infection.
