Medicines are rare – China is losing sight of Covid infections

Date:

China is increasingly sliding into corona chaos – after the relaxation of strict corona policies, the authorities can no longer closely monitor the spread of the virus. With the number of new infections skyrocketing, authorities can no longer accurately track the spread of the virus. It is now “impossible” to keep an accurate overview of the situation.

According to media reports, Deputy Prime Minister Sun Chunlan stated that the number of infections in the capital Beijing was “rising rapidly”. “Many asymptomatic people no longer undergo PCR testing, so it is impossible to accurately determine the current number of asymptomatic infected people,” the national health authority said.

That is why many people stock up on medicines, online networks report on sold-out medicines and long queues in front of pharmacies in the capital.

country ill-prepared
After nationwide protests and a slump in foreign trade in November, the People’s Republic began moving away from its strict zero-Covid policy about a week ago. Across the country, quarantine rules and testing requirements were initially relaxed or even abolished and mass closures came to an end. On Monday, authorities also announced the end of the state’s Corona app, which severely restricted people’s movement for two and a half years.

The abrupt reversal of Chinese leadership means the country is now facing a wave of coronavirus cases for which it is ill-prepared: millions of elderly people are still not fully vaccinated and underfunded hospitals lack the capacity to handle one that can accommodate large numbers of patients.
