Coincidence led the way and a firefighter as a guardian angel on the right track: because when he made his rounds in the Pesenbachtal in Bad Mühllacken (municipality of Feldkirchen in Upper Austria) despite freezing temperatures, he became a lifesaver for an elderly person who had fallen!
The elderly lady went for a walk alone and slipped and fell on the icy path in the Pesenbach valley. She lay there helpless, her calls went unheard because there are few people in the nature reserve at the moment and she was too far from a house.
The guardian angel came in the form of a firefighter around 3:00 PM. This was in icy temperatures – the thermometer was about minus five degrees – in the Pesenbach Valley and literally stumbled over the already weakened woman.
The helper ran to a nearby inn and raised the alarm. 16 comrades came to the rescue, the Samaritans and a firefighter with his off-road vehicle came to bring the fallen woman to safety. In Bad Mühllacken she then got into an ambulance and went to the hospital.
Whether the woman would otherwise have been found before nightfall is speculation. In any case, she would not have survived the night in the cold.
