After the Easter holidays, the last generation will turn to the capital of Styria. It is unclear how long the protests will last. Requirements are also set for the city council.
For two weeks in February, the last generation of activists paralyzed early morning traffic in many places in Vienna. Now the Styrian state capital of Graz is at the center of climate glues.
Specifically, from April 11, that is the Tuesday after Easter, “the early morning traffic madness in Graz will be interrupted to warn of the terrible consequences of the climate catastrophe and to finally push the federal government into action”, as the announcement say.
Solidarity demanded by the city council of Graz
Where exactly the actions take place is of course not revealed. How long they will last has not yet been determined, according to a Krone spokesman. A speed limit of 100 km/h on motorways and a halt to new oil and gas drilling in Austria are still required.
The activists want solidarity from the Graz city council: the first talks have taken place. “There appears to be a constructive basis for negotiations.” Once the negotiations are successful, the protests in Graz will be suspended until further notice, the pledge reads. Members of the KPÖ-Groen-SPÖ coalition from Graz have so far shown understanding for the climate protests, but were not pleased with the approach.
