Watch out and don’t leave: by keeping to this motto, observant walkers in the Krems district became the lifesavers of a little fox cub.
They were resting on a bench when a terrible wail suddenly caught their attention. When they searched for the source of the poignant sound, they found an orphaned baby fox that was already hypothermic and very dirty. Since the puppies normally depend on their mother’s care and no other animal was to be seen far and wide, the finders took it to the animal shelter in Krems, where the fox girl was quickly taken to a wildlife station.
Was the mother shot?
One can only speculate about the fate of his family. “The mother may have been run over. Unfortunately, nursing fox mothers are often shot because there is no closed fox season. The puppies then starve,” says animal shelter caretaker Aniko.
