The Young Farmers Calendar has been published for over 20 years, showing young people in farming action. This also applies to Lukas Speneder from Altpölla in the Zwettl district. But one thing separates the 28-year-old from his model colleagues: he has lived with only one arm since birth.
Lukas Speneder was born with only one arm, a prosthesis can help. He does not want to hide his handicap, on the contrary: as “Mister April” he shows everyone that he can also get through life well with a handicap.
“You just have to dare!”
“I want to motivate and empower other people with disabilities,” says Speneder. In the mornings he works as a medical administrator at the hospital, in the afternoons he helps out at the family-run inn and with farm work. He can’t fell the thickest tree trunk with his sports prosthesis, but he can trim hedges and make hay without any problems.
Enthusiastic about sports despite a handicap
The man from the Waldviertel even lifts weights in the fitness studio: “Especially moving helps me to stay balanced and that’s how I came up with the idea to sign up for the young farmers calendar. You don’t get any younger!” Going forward, this year’s “Mister April” wants to continue modeling alongside his two jobs.
