In connection with an action by the secret service of the Bundesamt für für Grondwettung und Terrorisme (BVT), which has since been dissolved, four former top officials of the BVT and a high-ranking representative of the Bundesamt für Immigration Law and Asylum (BFA) have been ordered to appear before the Viennese regional court appearing for abuse of office. This was announced by court spokeswoman Christina Salzborn. So far, five court dates have been set.
The Public Prosecution Service for Economic Affairs and Corruption (WKStA) once brought charges against the highest constitutional protectors, namely former BVT department head Martin W., ex-BVT spy chief Bernhard P. and two chief inspectors.
Allegation: Syrian State Security General granted asylum
They are accused of harboring a Syrian state security general in Austria during the “White Milk” operation for Israel’s foreign intelligence agency Mossad and, despite the lack of legal conditions, obtaining asylum for him – despite the fact that the general shared responsibility for the torture of opponents of the Syrian regime in Raqqa. The presumption of innocence applies to suspects who have denied the allegations during the preliminary investigation.
„Cooperation“
Martin W. is said to have concluded the “cooperation agreement” with Mossad on May 6, 2015 “to obtain information”, the WKStA states in its indictment. In July of the same year, the head of the BVT department allegedly told the then BFA director that the Syrian general was in danger in France and handed him an official memo about this with a “threat forecast”.
He knew – at least according to the WKStA’s charge – that this unexamined claim was “solely intended to substantiate the plausibility of the general’s intended entry into Austria”. The man was then taken to Austria and supported in submitting an asylum application, whereby an asylum application was submitted “under false pretenses”.
According to the WKStA, Martin W. allegedly entrusted Bernhard P. to his subordinate then head of the intelligence service’s proliferation department with the concrete planning and operational implementation of the whole by means of wrongful instruction. According to the indictment, on June 13, 2015, the officer of the Syrian State Security Service and head of a prison run by it was received by the BVT at the Austrian border, driven to Vienna in a service vehicle and taken to the quarters. Only two days later, the general submitted a – prepared – application for asylum at the first reception center in Ost Traiskirchen.
