At least seven people have been killed in an avalanche in the Indian Himalayas. More are missing after Tuesday’s incident, according to the Indian army, which is involved in the rescue effort along with the Indian civil defense and police. At least 22 people were rescued.
The avalanche originated near the Nathu La mountain pass on the Indochinese border.
Nathu La is a popular spot for local tourists who want to see the border region in the Indian state of Sikkim. The avalanche also blocked a road, temporarily trapping and rescuing some 350 tourists in the region.
