Farm on fire – two dead after a fire in Styria

Date:

A fierce fire broke out on a remote site in Deutschfeistritz (Graz region) on Wednesday night. Firefighters found two bodies in a burned down building. It would be a 74-year-old woman from Styria and her son (44). The police are investigating.

The fire was discovered during an accidental flight of a rescue helicopter: around one o’clock in the morning, the air rescuers in Deutschfeistritz north of Graz noticed a remote building on fire. The alarmed fire brigade found an old farmhouse that was completely on fire and immediately started extinguishing it. About 70 emergency services prevented the spread to other buildings on the site.

The police don’t assume crimes
While the old farmhouse burned to the ground, the neighboring residential building was unharmed. In the burned house, the emergency services made a terrible discovery: they found two bodies in the charred rubble. According to the police, the initial findings would concern a 74-year-old pensioner and her son (44). They were registered in the residential building of the estate. According to the current status, the police do not assume a crime.

An autopsy must now clarify the identity of the dead and the exact circumstances of the tragic incident. Fire investigators from the Styrian Criminal Investigation Department are also working at full speed with the investigation.
