Removal of dogs from catastrophic conditions! In eastern Styria, 15 American bulldogs were confiscated by the official veterinarian, showing the worst signs of torture, illegally imported from Russia and pitifully kept in the basement.
Even the experienced animal doctor Gerhard Kutschera has no words for words. The animals were kept in kennels that were far too small in a cellar, in pairs or threes behind bars, with no opportunity for movement or activity.
“They also have typical breeding characteristics,” the expert is appalled. “A huge head on a neck that is too narrow, they are extremely bulky, their legs are too short. Some ears and tail have been mutilated by docking, which is also prohibited in our country. The special colors such as blue and lilac can still cause diseases.”
Expert pleads for long-awaited breeding bans
According to initial findings, the dogs were illegally imported from Russia, “it looks like they have to go back there,” Kutschera suspects. “On the market there, the fairly rare variety can fetch up to 8,000 euros.”
But nothing comes of that, the animals have been removed and are now cared for in Noah’s Ark, among other places. Who knows a few more details: “It was very clear that the animals were clearly intended for breeding and reproduction and would spread their diseases. None of the dogs were neutered, even three unneutered siblings (one female and two males) were kenneled together, one female was pregnant. The bad thing: Because of their breed, American Bully bitches can’t have puppies naturally without hesitation. As a result, the babies always have to be born by caesarean section.”
In the meantime, Gerhard Kutschera is bursting at the seams: “It is finally time for torture breeding to be strictly banned. In the Netherlands, this courageous step has long been taken, working groups run in circles here. Breeds that cannot breathe, where diseases or interventions are already programmed, and that are only held on because they conform to some misplaced ideal of beauty should finally be banned We have 350 dog breeds, if 50 are eliminated the dog world will not perish It is a scandal that you are allowed to breed sick dogs that lifelong suffering.”
