Terror in Tel Aviv – Dead tourist did not arrive until the day of the attack

He was killed in a car attack on the beach promenade on Friday evening. Two other Italians are also in a “worrying” condition, Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani reported on Saturday. A total of seven tourists between the ages of 17 and 74 were injured in this attack. Some are from Great Britain. The police spoke of a “terrorist attack on civilians” in which a vehicle was used as a battering ram. The driver would have died.

Earlier on Friday, two 16- and 20-year-old sisters from the West Bank settlement of Efrat were killed in a gun attack. Her mother was seriously injured. Initially, no one claimed responsibility for the attack, but the Israeli army said Palestinians were behind it.

Criticism of the police and government
Following the attacks, the country’s government announced that it would mobilize additional police and armed forces units. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has ordered police to mobilize “all border police reserve units”. The situation in the Middle East has greatly deteriorated during the Jewish Passover holiday and the Muslim month of fasting. The escalation follows clashes between Palestinians and Israeli police at Jerusalem’s Al-Aqsa Mosque mid-week. At least 34 rockets were “launched from Lebanon into Israeli territory” on Thursday. On Friday night, the Israeli army said it shot down a drone coming from Lebanon.

The deployment of the police is currently arousing international criticism. Nor do the people largely support the right-wing religious government. Despite the heightened security situation, these protests are expected to continue. Another weekly meeting is planned for Saturday evening in Tel Aviv, this time without a subsequent march.
