Eurozone inflation breaks records and rises to 7.5% in April 2022

The cost of fresh food and energy has influenced the year-on-year rise in prices in the eurozone.

The annual inflation in the eurozone stood at 7.5% in April, compared to the 7.4% recorded in March, which represents the highest price increase in the euro region of the entire historic series, according to the progress of data published by the common Statistical Office, Eurostat.

According to the municipal statistics office, the price increase in the eurozone in the fourth month of 2022 corresponds to the 9.2% year-on-year increase in the cost of fresh food, compared to 7.8% in the previous month, while the energy price increases slowed from 44.4% in March to 38%.

Services, in turn, became 3.3% more expensive year-on-year, compared to 2.7% in the previous month, while industrial prices excluding energy increased by 3.8%, four-tenths more than in March.

Excluding the impact of energy from the calculation, year-on-year inflation in the eurozone was 4.2% in April, compared to 3.4% in the previous month, while the effect of fresh food prices, alcohol and tobacco, core inflation reached a record high of 3.5%, compared to 2.9% in March.

Of the EU countries, the largest price increases were recorded in Estonia (19%), Lithuania (16.6%) and Latvia (13.2%), while the smallest increases were recorded in Malta (4.9%), France (5 .4%) and Finland (5.6%).

In the case of Spain, harmonized inflation stood at 8.3% in April, compared to 9.8% in March, reducing the unfavorable price differential to eight tenths of the euro area average.
