Employees of the Salzburg retirement home, infamous because of the care scandal, turned to the “Krone” and politicians with violent accusations and calls for help. The country’s health inspectors found no serious abuses. The operating company Senecura calmed down.
At first glance, it seems as if peace has returned to the Salzburg health care scandal involving starving and sore seniors. Politicians and homeowners promised to get better, announced the consequences and made plans. The public prosecutor’s office discontinues the investigation – the suspect cannot be blamed. The storm of indignation subsided.
Employees denounce further grievances
Behind the walls of the Senecura care institution in Salzburg-Lehen, however, the rumbling would continue. The suffering of the elderly must also continue in the same way. At least that is what authentic letters to the “Krone” suggest. The staff is therefore still working at the limit of resilience. During the day, two people have to take care of 25 residents. You can’t keep up with the work.
In some cases, residents are awakened at night and washed because there is no time for this during the day. The seniors sometimes eat on a lounger and are put to bed at 4pm. The housing supervisor is regularly in the house. But, “It doesn’t matter if it happens.” There were also problems at the top management level. This claim is supported by job postings. Once for house management and once for nursing management.
The State Council is also aware of the allegations
State councilor Martina Berthold (Greens) is also confronted with such accusations. “We keep getting these letters. As a rule, these lead to checks by the home supervisor,” says Berthold. The inspectors are at the facility approximately every two weeks. There were no gross irregularities to report. The schedules would also be checked during the checks. About the staff situation, it says: “An easing since November is clearly recognizable, with the staff shortage in the entire care area being a fact.” The number of beds continues to be reduced.
No new complaints to the Ombudsman
The Ombudsman has not received any new complaints. However, the home will continue to be monitored as part of the general fight against abuse.
Operator denies maintenance deficiencies
Senecura denies any lack of concern. The personnel situation has been consolidated since November. The change in top management was planned after the “reorganization phase”.
