Children among victims – At least 33 killed in shipwreck off Tunisia

Date:

The death toll from Tuesday’s shipwreck off Tunisia has continued to rise. Eight more bodies were recovered on Friday after a refugee boat was wrecked off the coast of the Tunisian city of Sfax. This brings the death toll to 33, reports the Tunisian coastguard. The bodies were taken to Sfax hospital. Among the dead are two children, most of whom are from Africa.

Since the beginning of this year, 32,769 people have arrived in Italy after sea voyages across the Mediterranean, including 2,717 from Tunisia. Most of the migrants who have arrived in Italy come from Côte d’Ivoire (Ivory Coast), Guinea and Pakistan.

State of emergency in Italy due to migration movements
