Disguised in a hijab, Stanley Omondi participated as a woman in a chess tournament in Kenya. But his fraud was exposed: he played too well!
Stanley Omondi needed money to pay his tuition fees. Because the 22-year-old liked and liked chess from an early age, he came up with the idea to participate in the Kenya Open chess tournament. But because the male competition was too strong for him, he resorted to a trick: he entered as a woman.
Hijab and false name
To do this, the student put on a hijab that covered his head and face and registered under a false name for the tournament in Nairobi, in which 444 players from 22 countries took part. In his category, Stanley waved 500,000 million Kenyan shillings (about 3,300 euros).
But because he beat all the champions right away, the contestants became suspicious and the fraud came to light. He is now threatened with a multi-year suspension.
