The company’s management has agreed to a six-month ERTE that would affect about 7,000 workers at the Etxebarri and Lesaka factories.
Labor union LAB has criticized the new Dossier Scheme Temporary Labor (ERTE) announced by steel company ArcelorMittal and accuses the multinational of “an interested use of the ERTE for its own benefit”.
The management of ArcelorMittal and the unions UGT, CCOO and USO have agreed on the application of an ERTE, in principle for six months and which will affect some 7000 workersas a result of the fire in blast furnace A at the Gijón plant, which caused the closure of facilities. The file will affect the factories, among other things etxebarri (Bizkaia) and lesaka (Navarra).
In a note released this Sunday, LAB considered that “the problem that occurred in the Asturias furnace only shows that what Arcelor needs is not to insecurityBut investment“.
He also pointed out that in recent years, ArcelorMittal “is becoming record profits and for that reason it has more than enough capacity to face this cyclical situation without having to use the ERTE”.
In view of this, LAB has indicated that it does not understand that the UGT and CCOO signed that agreement and accused these unions of “in a clear strategy of defense of corporate interests rather than in defense of that of the working class”.
