Police were stunned when they found more than 100 gas cylinders, thousands of liters of fuel and dozens of stolen items during a search of the house of a 56-year-old resident in Kundl (Kufstein district). The suspect is the man who started several fires in his municipality earlier this year.
It was a frightening night for the residents of Kundl after several fires in February. A fire brigade kept the municipality sharp. Weeks later, the detectives arrested the suspected perpetrator. It involved a 56-year-old man from the area. Footprints in the snow on one of the nights of the crime were ultimately decisive for the success of the search. The man has not confessed. He has been in custody ever since.
During a house search a few weeks ago, officials found numerous stolen items, such as tools, motorcycle helmets and bicycles. As is now known, the suspect probably committed several thefts between 2016 and the end of February 2023. Investigators assume a damage of at least 50,000 euros.
Long list of stolen goods
The end result of the house search suggests theft on a grand scale. “Among other things, 106 gas bottles, several thousand liters of incorrectly stored fuel, but also high-quality tools, bicycles, scooters, fire supplies and snow poles were secured,” the detectives say.
A public appeal by the police on social media has so far led to the identification of 26 robbed victims. Further investigations are ongoing.
