Mantra-like warnings have been and continue to be issued: we are talking about unscrupulous scammers posing as police officers or court operatives on the phone and literally wanting to extract money from the pockets of their chosen victims with outrageous lies. On Monday evening, a 93-year-old woman from Innsbruck fell for the nasty scam. A lot of money and gold coins gone!
Around 6 p.m., the elderly Tyrolean received a phone call. An unknown man posed as a police officer and asked the 93-year-old if she had any cash at home. “When the woman said yes, the caller told her he would collect the money later,” the real director reported. Allegedly for security reasons.
Escaped with cash and gold coins
At around 11:15 p.m., the fake police officer actually rang the doorbell of the victim’s front door and the woman invited him in. “The 93-year-old then showed him the money in the middle, a four-digit euro amount and 32 gold coins,” the detectives continued. The criminal took the money along with the gold coins and then ran off.
The fraudster introduced himself as Herr Mayr. He had also given the telephone number of the police station of Innsbruck train station. So far there is no trace of the culprit. investigations are underway.
