An unplanned incident on an Army transport plane on Wednesday caused short-term excitement. The Hercules had to turn around after smoke appeared in the hold.
The Herkules transport plane took off from Hörsching on Wednesday morning. Shortly after takeoff, crew members noticed smoke on the plane. “Oil in the cargo hold must have been ignited,” said Colonel Michael Bauer, spokesman for the Austrian armed forces, to the “Krone”. The result: the flight path had to be canceled immediately for safety reasons and the Hercules was quickly returned to Hörsching.
At 8:27 a.m., seven fire brigades between Traun and Pasching were also alerted after an emergency escape alarm went off. But while the blue light units were still arriving, this again fell through.
No immediate danger
Thanks to protective masks and other safety measures, the flue gases should not have presented a direct danger to the crew. “The incident ended mildly, no one was injured,” confirms Bauer. The flight incident is still under close investigation.
