April didn’t quite welcome us into spring this year. Already halfway through the month, Austria received much more rain than usual in April. In any case, this should be over by next weekend. Breathe easy: Up to 25 degrees are expected in the country.
Spring doesn’t really want to get going in April this year. The month has been changeable so far and with a lot of rain in large parts of Austria. The past week saw heavy rain and snowfall across the country, on the eastern edge of the Alps and in the Vienna Basin. According to the UWZ, significant amounts of precipitation fell between 60 and 100 liters per square meter.
Snow again Thursday
At the beginning of the week it remained unsettled and the temperature average. According to experts from Austria’s Severe Weather Center (UWZ), a low-lying high-altitude low should bring snowfall again on Thursday. In the northern Alps, the snow line is expected to drop again to just below 1000 meters. It often cools down by only 5 to 10 degrees. In the east and southeast, however, up to 15 degrees are possible.
After that, the wintry weather will probably come to an end, in the weekend there are even chances for the first day of summer: from Friday the great low point will reach France and Austria will finally enter a southerly flow. The result: according to experts, it becomes much milder. The 20-degree limit on the north side of the Alps must be cracked on Friday.
Early summer expected from the weekend?
At the weekend, the local can even rise to around 25 degrees, which is by definition a summer day. In the state capitals of Innsbruck and Salzburg, temperatures of up to 23 degrees are expected on Saturday. In Linz it should be a pleasant 22 degrees. It would be the “coldest” in Graz and in Eisenstadt on Saturday. An equally pleasant 19 degrees is expected there.
Normally, the summer day in the provincial capitals does not premiere until the end of April or the beginning of May.
