Two brown bears want to see hikers in Gortipohl in the Montafon of Vorarlberg on Wednesday morning. When the two women were out with their dogs in the “Schattenort” area, three deer ran from a meadow into the woods. Soon after, the bears appeared and roared.
Terrified, the two women and their dogs fled to a nearby garage. The two did not take any photos or videos. Moments later, police and hunters found animal footprints that could not be clearly assigned. Whether these really come from bears is not yet known.
In 2006, a brown bear caused a stir in the Ländle. “JJ1” (the brother of the bear who killed a jogger in Italy) also killed some sheep in Montafon and then moved on towards Tyrol. Later, crossing the border into Bavaria was his downfall. Catching attempts by Finnish experts failed. The neighbors then made short work of the problem bear: “JJ1” was shot down at Spitzingsee.
