Several serious traffic accidents in Upper Austria on Tuesday caused difficult operations for rescuers and a long line of sheet metal work, sometimes resulting in serious injuries. Trucks, cars and, early in the season, a motorcycle were involved.
In the direction of Suben, car and truck drivers needed a lot of patience on the Innkreisautobahn. First, a small van drove into a truck trailer just across the border at the Pocking exit in Bavaria. The pickup truck driver was able to get to safety just in time when his vehicle caught fire. The Suben Fire Department crossed the border to provide support and extinguish the vehicles.
And in the backlog there was another accident on the Upper Austrian side, near Ort im Innkreis: again a van hit a truck. The driver of the transporter was trapped, rescue helicopter Europa 3 was called. Due to the rescue work and the landing of Europa 3, the A8 at St. Marienkirchen was closed. Eventually the traffic jam had grown to about 20 kilometers and reached as far as Ried im Innkreis.
Timber truck versus car
Two seriously injured car occupants claimed the collision of a timber transport truck with a car in Rohrbach-Berg. The passenger could be freed from the wreckage by rescuers, but the driver was trapped. The fire brigade had to enter through the trunk and with the help of the medical emergency service and a doctor who happened to be present, the woman was able to save the woman through the driver’s door. The rescue helicopter was also in action here.
And finally there was an accident in Neuhofen an der Krems: here a car and a motorcycle collided. The driver of the two-wheeler also came to Kepler University Hospital by rescue helicopter. The course of the accident has now also been clarified: a 41-year-old driver was driving on Kremstalbundesstraße towards Neuhofen an der Krems and wanted to turn left into Grundstraße. He paused to let an oncoming car pass, but did not see the 23-year-old motorcyclist driving behind it. He drove off again and collided with the two-wheeler, which skidded 100 feet by the side of the road and was seriously injured.
