Because the information required by the judge is pending, the date for the start of Teichtmeister’s trial is still pending. Meanwhile, the actor is still at large and can even travel abroad.
72 days have passed since the trial of actor Florian Teichtmeister was approved. The TV Commissioner, accused of possessing 58,000 child pornography files, was “acutely ill”. 31 days ago, the Vienna Regional Court announced that Teichtmeister could stand trial again. However, there is no new date yet. Many people cannot understand that the 43-year-old is still on the loose and can even travel abroad.
According to court spokeswoman Christina Salzborn, there is good reason to wait. Judge Stefan Apostol came to the conclusion in the course of the preparations that more information had to be obtained – and so he ordered this. “The results are not there yet,” says Salzborn, who emphasizes the need for this intermediate step. She is not allowed to go into detail about the content.
Originally, the judge in the main hearing on February 8 would have wanted to clarify this – which would have led to an adjournment. Which would take you almost as far as you are now.
Image Abuse – Evil lurks on the dark web
While the subject usually only becomes the focus of public debate with prominent cases, every second the most repulsive material is produced, consumed and transmitted on the Internet.
There are incredibly deep abyss opening up when it comes to child pornography and child abuse in the so-called dark web – a hidden part of the internet, invisible to anyone using a standard browser. A recent survey of internet users reveals frightening figures. According to a Finnish child protection organization’s “Help us to help you” survey of 22,500 anonymous people, including 1079 German-speaking users (!), the interaction of child pornography consumption and actual contact with a child has been proven (see image above).
Almost half of the German-speaking respondents have contacted a child, eleven percent more than the average of all other participants. It is particularly concerning that 70 percent of respondents from the DACH region, Belgium, Luxembourg & Co. saw child pornography for the first time when they were under 18 years old. Users often came across graphic material ‘accidentally’.
European solution in the fight against pedophiles
The Council of Europe estimates that one in five children is a victim of sexual violence. Meanwhile, the number of child abuse images has risen to more than 20 million by 2021, with 85 million images and videos also worldwide.
More than 62 percent of this material is stored in European databases. The child protection organization ECPAT is now calling on domestic politicians to put pressure on Brussels:In the future, online providers should proactively search for child pornography and remove it from their platforms.
Providers should be obliged to detect and acknowledge pedophile crime. “The ready availability is an increased danger for children. This is countered by taking responsibility,” says ECPAT Director Thomas Müller.
