Fuel prices as a danger – supply assured: millions save the rescue

Date:

The Red Cross alone consumes 300,000 liters of diesel per month: at the rescue summit a package of ten million euros was put together to guarantee the security of supply for the rescue organizations.

We should not suddenly have to stop in an emergency because we have no fuel,” said Red Cross President Josef Schmoll, after more than two years of pandemic he is facing new challenges. Because the blue light organizations were not spared the wave of inflation: whether it is for diesel, medicines or bandages or also for pay increases.“The situation has raised concerns among rescue services,” confirms Hannes Auer, president of the Samaritan Association.

People are all the more happy about the rapid aid provided by the country: with a package of ten million euros extra for 2022 and 2023, the planability and security of supply for aid organizations such as air, mountain and water rescue, but also emergency doctors must be guaranteed. “There will be an inflation correction this year and a liquidity advance for 2023,” emphasizes Governor Johanna Mikl-Leitner.

Government decision is being prepared
The details: “Before 2022, we will pay a housing cost adjustment of 2.5 million euros. This corresponds to a lump sum of 35 percent of existing contracts or subsidies.” This payment is to be made “as soon as possible” and a corresponding decision to be made at the next government meeting in two weeks’ time. The 2.5 million euros also includes 130,000 euros for the air rescue service and 31,000 euros for the bed transports of the ASBÖ, the country manager explains.

For 2023, there is a “liquidity prepayment” of 75 percent of the annual contract amount. As this year, the special funds for rescue operations in the air will also be taken into account next year with about two million euros and bed-intensive transports with about 65,000 euros. The emergency medical service of the Red Cross is also supported – 730,000 euros will go to improving the situation at the 15 medical aid stations.
