Visitors to a circus in the central Chinese province of Henan experienced the shock of their lives. During a lion show, both show animals broke free and ran to the stands before turning and choosing their way out. The dramatic minutes were captured by eyewitnesses (see video above).
The circus, known for its wild animals, had just opened in Luoyang city. According to local media, it was a family performance, so many young children were present. The two tamers had overlooked a small gap between two rows of bars that had been set up. The two wild cats used this hole and fled.
The parents immediately grabbed their children and went outside as quickly as possible. It’s only thanks to their guardian angels that the two show animals didn’t attack. Circus workers were able to catch one of the animals while still in the tent.
Circus suspended after incident
The other lion made it to the parking lot, where it continued to spread fear but did not injure anyone. Eyewitness photos show an animal that was completely unimpressed by the excitement, which could also be caught a little later. According to local media, the performances have been suspended until further notice.
