Dramatic scenes took place in Arnoldstein on Thursday evening. A 68-year-old man suffered severe burns and had to be put into an artificial deep sleep before being taken to hospital.
Around 7 p.m., the Arnoldsteiner fired up a pan of oil in his kitchen. The oil may have ignited due to overheating. The 68-year-old was still trying to contain the fire. Realizing it was not possible, he ran out with the burning pot.
Fallen and severely burned
“There he must have fallen and burned himself severely in the upper body from the burning oil,” the police said. On site, the 68-year-old had to be put into an artificial deep sleep by the emergency medical team of the rescue helicopter “RK1”. Only then were the rescuers able to fly the victim to the clinic in Klagenfurt.
The emergency services were alerted by the wife of the Arnoldsteiner.
