Dramatic scenes played out in the Tyrolean Ötztal on Saturday afternoon. A 61-year-old was completely buried under an avalanche. But the woman had a guardian angel and a companion who saved her life.

The accident happened around 12 noon. A German skier (58) has ridden on a north slope in the municipality of Sölden northwest of the “Hinterer Wurmkogel” in the open ski area. The snow cover suddenly broke and an avalanche ensued.

All three winter sports enthusiasts were hit by snow masses
The German, a 40-year-old Austrian and the 61-year-old Austrian were swept away by the avalanche. The two men were lucky and were only partially buried. They managed to free themselves from the avalanche. Not so the 61-year-old. The woman could no longer be seen under the snow masses.

The 58-year-old injured his knee in the accident. He was disabled. But the 40-year-old reacted quickly. He was able to locate and exhume the woman in no time. The victim escaped unhurt but unharmed.
