The United Nations has confirmed that an initial group of about 100 civilians has already been evacuated from the Mariúpol steel plant, in an operation involving the Red Cross, Russia and Ukraine.
The United Nations confirmed the operation this Sunday to release a first group of about 100 citizens at the Azovstal steel plant in the Ukrainian port of Mariúpol, an operation in which the Red Cross, Russia and Ukraine work together.
This is how the evacuated group is on its way to the controlled area by the Ukrainian government.
According to Ukrainian Fontsin the steel factory Azovstal at least stay 500 civilians and a thousand fighters of the Azov regiment, which is part of the Kiev Armed Forces. In addition, in the facilities there are: half a thousand injuredbetween civilians and soldiers, with no access to medical treatment and with increasingly scarce supplies of water and food.
hours earlier, Russian media had reported that 40 civilians, including 18 men, 14 women and eight children, had been evacuated from the factory area in three buses, but Russia later estimated 80 civilians evacuated from the steel mill, explaining that they were all transported to bezimenneabout 33 kilometers east of the port city, where they have received shelter, food and medical care.
According to these sources, the process has been overseen by the UN and the International Committee of the Red Cross.
