At the age of 15, Sara from Innsbruck went down in 2022 – so the “Krone” reported. Since then there has been no sign of life from her. It is believed that she married a Muslim and moved abroad with him. Now the mother of the Tyrolean speaks for the first time.
It is a missing person case that has caused quite a stir and is now even on television. The program “Fahndung Austria” on ServusTV with moderator Hans Martin Paar will discuss the disappearance of Sara from Tyrol next Wednesday – in close cooperation with the police and other authorities.
Last August, Sara disappeared
On Tuesday, August 16, 2022, the 15-year-old – she converted to Islam and lived a very strict life – left Innsbruck with bag and luggage. Because she had tensions with her parents, she lived in a juvenile detention center. “On the day of her disappearance, a social worker met her there. The teenager was carrying a large backpack – she emphasized that she would like to meet a friend for a picnic,” said Christoph Kirchmair, head of the criminal department of the Innsbruck city police, in an interview with the “Tiroler Krone”.
And a day before the disappearance, she told a relative at a bus stop that she and her husband, whom she had married under Islamic law, were planning to go abroad. “The cities of Munich and Cologne fell,” Kirchmair emphasises. It is also known that Sara carried a passport – and a Quran.
“In the beginning I was happy to wear the hijab”
Her mother, who wishes to remain anonymous, has a possible explanation for this – she describes it in “Fahlung Austria”: “Months before, my daughter had started to cover herself with a hijab – a headscarf. At first I was happy because I converted to Islam herself at the age of 14. As a result, she covered her entire body – initially with cute little dresses complete with flowers and rhinestones, which looked very cute. But then they changed to black clothes and in a At some point, the so-called niqab came along – that full body covering where only the eyes can be seen.
According to Kirchmair, the police once found the 15-year-old in a public area wearing a niqab: “Since such a veil is prohibited in public areas, we also reported her at the time.”
“Now nothing is voluntary here anymore”
Sara’s mother also recalls that her daughter once called her an “infidel” – even though she herself is a Muslim: “But that wasn’t my daughter, she’s just not like that. Sara met other friends on the internet. towards radicalism,” she emphasizes. One day she even received a message from her daughter via WhatsApp: “It said that she no longer wanted to have contact with me and that I must delete all the photos I have of her. That obviously hurt me a lot.”
The 15-year-old’s mother expresses a clear assumption: “In the beginning my daughter must have gone somewhere voluntarily after being – I don’t know if I can call it that now – brainwashed. But I am convinced that nothing more is voluntary.”
“Fahlung Austria” is meant to bring clues
That much is unclear – hence the move to the program “Fahhrung Österreich”, which is also broadcast in Germany, South Tyrol and Switzerland. “We hope this will provide useful clues about Sara’s disappearance. She most likely left Innsbruck by public transport – can anyone comment on that? Did she get help from anyone? Or does anyone know her current whereabouts or is anyone in contact with her? “All police stations take information – of course confidentially,” Kirchmair emphasizes. Tips can also be reported during the live broadcast.
The report on the missing Sara will be broadcast on Wednesday, April 26, 2023 at 8:15 p.m. on ServusTV.
