Former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi was admitted to San Raffaele Hospital in Milan on Friday. The 86-year-old has to undergo scheduled examinations for chronic leukemia, the treating physicians Alberto Zangrillo and Fabio Ciceri report in a bulletin.
The decision to advance the investigations “meets the criteria of normal medical practice and is not related to a critical situation,” it said. The former prime minister has to spend the night in hospital.

He was only released on May 19 after a 45-day stay from the hospital where he had been treated for a lung infection.
He had been in intensive care for twelve days. Berlusconi is the leader of the ruling centre-right party Forza Italia. Between 1994 and 2011, he served as Prime Minister of Italy four times.
