Zelenskyy in video: – Russian troops defend occupied territories

Date:

The Russian army will now defend occupied territories rather than conquer new ones, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said in his daily video address. According to estimates, Russian forces are still attacking, but are currently struggling to advance.

In the city of Uman, 23 people were killed in a Russian missile attack on Friday, including six minors. Anyone preparing such rocket attacks should know that they are complicit in the deaths of civilians, the Ukrainian head of state said. It is therefore necessary to hold opponents of war to account for their crimes. By this Zelenskyy means not only the leadership, but also the armed forces. “Not just the commanders, but all of you, you are all terrorists and murderers and you all need to be punished,” Zelensky said. Anyone who pilots and fires missiles, who maintains planes and ships for terror, is complicit in the war dead.

Killed by Ukrainian shelling
The president did not comment on the responsibility of the Ukrainian armed forces. Over the weekend, they destroyed a residential building in the western Russian border region of Bryansk and damaged two other houses through shelling. According to the governor of the region, Alexander Bogomas, two people were killed. The Russian side repeatedly complains about shelling on its own territory.

Various information about Bachmut
According to Zelenskyy, the Russian army is currently mainly concerned with defending occupied territories. However, fighting in Bakhmut continues, reported the head of the Russian mercenary unit Wagner, Yevgeny Prigozhin. The Ukrainian troops are said to control only about three square kilometers of the city area, but do not want to give up the largely destroyed city – in part to tie up Russian troops for an expected counter-offensive. According to Ukrainian sources, the connecting road from the city to Chasiv Yar would be controversial.

The supply of supplies, weapons and ammunition is assured, spokesman for the Eastern Army Group of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Serhiy Cherevatyy, said on Saturday. Engineers have already laid new roads to Bachmut. According to their own statements, the attackers now control about 85 percent of the city’s territory. Prigozhin recently spoke of a thousand corpses a day, but now puts this figure into perspective against just under 100 men. In the course of Saturday, Wagner advanced another 100 to 150 meters into the city.
