The car was “thumping”; at first glance two children under the robes were not recognizable. Ukrainians were on their way home to the war zone in a completely overloaded car when they were stopped near Ansfelden (Upper Austria). But the officials also showed courage and helped.
Officials noticed the fully loaded Opel Zafira on the western highway on Monday evening as it headed for Vienna. They stopped him and checked occupants – the driver was a 34-year-old – and cargo.
In the six-seat car, officials first saw only six people. But when they looked closely, they saw two children, aged two and six, under garment bags on the laps of two women. Neither the women nor the children were tied up or otherwise secured.
Police officers organized train tickets
The police banned further travel, but did not want to prohibit the family from traveling further to Ukraine. So the people were escorted to Linz main station, where the officials also arranged the tickets and looked for the right train connection. The steering wheel is displayed, the journey can be continued.
