Not only does the story sound like a horror movie, one of the suspects could have jumped right out. An Arkansas funeral director has been charged with selling body parts on Facebook. According to the indictment, more than 20 boxes of horrific contents went to Jeremy Lee Pauley – whose arrest photo has now gone viral.
Candace Chapman Scott worked for Arkansas Central Mortuary Services. She organized the transportation of the remains of cadavers donated to the University of Arkansas School of Medicine in Little Rock. These were later cremated in the crematorium of the funeral home.
fetuses, lungs, genitals
According to the indictment, in October 2021, the 39-year-old contacted her online acquaintance Pauley, who ran a Facebook group called “Oddities”. He showed, among other things, photographs of human bones. Scott asked him via message, “Just out of curiosity, do you know anyone who would like to buy an intact, embalmed brain?” The 40-year-old from East Pennsboro Township, Pennsylvania, bought one herself.
Over the next nine months, Scott allegedly sold fetuses, brains, hearts, lungs, genitals, fake breasts, and other body parts to the demonic-looking buyer. She sent them by post in 20 large boxes. She allegedly received a total of $10,975 in 16 separate payments on PayPal.
Hoarded in the basement
The case exploded when police received a tip in June 2022 that Pauley was hoarding human organs in the basement. During a raid, the shocked officers found buckets of human organs. Detectives, who initially thought they were dealing with a serial killer, tracked down Scott with help from the FBI.
She must remain behind bars pending trial in Little Rock for grand larceny, conspiracy and robbery due to the risk of escaping. Pauley is being tried separately in Pennsylvania.
