A price list for an SPÖ event in Carinthia is doing the rounds on social media and sparking heated discussions.
It’s May 1, which is celebrated every year in Kreuzbergl in the Carinthian capital. The 1 May family party is organized by the SPÖ. On the beer benches hangs a note with a price list of the women’s cafe, with different prices for men and women. Coffee, cake, pie or mineral water are cheaper for women.
Causes displeasure
And this action made the rounds on social media during the holiday. “If it were the other way around, it would be a scandal!” Instagram users comment. “Well, as a woman I’d be ashamed!” But there are also other reactions: “If you consider that women earn less for the same work, then you can’t have fun for a day!”
The red party clarifies
The “Krone” asked the Reds what the action was about. “Our ‘Women’s Café’ is an organization where we do good things for women and has been around for a number of years. We are always represented on May 1 at the family celebration in Kreuzbergl and collect donations,” explains Ruth Feistritzer, member of the Carinthia state parliament.
“With this campaign we want to draw attention to the income of women on Labor Day, because it is well known that they earn less than men. It should not be forgotten that these are donations that in turn benefit women in need”, Ruth wants to clarify and finally adds: “Our members bring the coffee and cake themselves.”
