Two weeks after the knife attack in a gym in Duisburg, a 21-year-old is still in mortal danger. The young man needs another operation, for which his state of health is currently not stable enough, a Duisburg police spokesperson said on Tuesday.
Since Friday, the federal prosecutor’s office has been investigating the attack on four recreational athletes in the studio and a fatal attack on a 35-year-old on the night of Easter Sunday. A 26-year-old Syrian man is suspected. On a mobile phone are clues that could be actions of an Islamist.
He is reportedly accused of fatally wounding three people with a cutting or stabbing weapon in a gym in Duisburg. “We deeply regret the incident in our club in Duisburg and hope that the victims recover quickly,” said the operator of the fitness studio after the attack. While a 21-year-old is still in mortal danger, the other three men have since been able to leave the hospital.
Perpetrators not yet caught
Officials conducted a full-scale operation two weeks ago, questioning witnesses and searching for clues on all floors of the studio. The studio remained closed until this work was completed. The perpetrator is still on the run.
