Sex in space has so far – at least officially – only existed in the cinema. But with private space tourism, the chatter in weightlessness could quickly become “commonplace” for many people. This, according to experts, raises biological and legal questions that “urgently” need clarification.
Space and its endless expanse – for decades, experiencing it was reserved for astronauts, who had to undergo long, physically and mentally demanding training. But those times are over: commercial providers such as Elon Musk’s SpaceX, Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin or Richard Branson’s Virgin Galactic have also been pushing into space for a few years now and have even transported the first tourists there.
However, so far the journeys to orbit have been short-lived and have therefore provided little opportunity for interpersonal togetherness. But in the next decade or so, so-called space tourism is likely to increase exponentially, transporting, say, newlyweds and newlyweds who can afford it for several days, if not weeks, in weightlessness.
True to the motto “Chance awakens instincts”, they will surely want to enjoy more than just the beautiful view of Mother Earth.
