Window smashed – firefighters save two dogs from heat death in car

Even at an outside temperature of 24 degrees, the car can become a deadly trap within an hour. Two dogs were rescued from one of these in Baden just in time. They had to wait in the car for their master – only one side window was slightly lowered. Passers-by alerted the police, who made the only right decision on the spot.

Due to the threatening indoor temperatures of more than 50 degrees, the firefighters were called to help. They didn’t hesitate for a moment and smashed the side window of the vehicle. “After that we went to the office with the two cuties,” says a city police officer. There the two fur noses were waiting for their owner. He was also insightful, as police emphasized: “He stated that privately he had a lot on his mind and deeply regrets the incident.”

A kitten was also trapped in the car in Herzogenburg in the St. Pölten district. However, unlike the two dogs, it had put itself in the seemingly hopeless situation. The velvet leg climbed into the engine compartment of a parked car, but couldn’t get out. There was only one way out: meow loudly. This was even heard by passersby who tried to lure the kitten outside. Because that didn’t work, they alerted the fire brigade and police. That was probably too much for the little four-legged friend, who was then able to climb out of the car without outside help. After a “souvenir photo” with representatives of the aid organizations, the cat was taken to the animal shelter in St. Pölten, where the owner is now “searched”.

The fire brigade in Oberwaltersdorf in the state of Baden was also called in for an unusual rescue. A hedgehog had fallen into a digging hole. Because it was full of mud from the storm, the spiky man was unable to climb out of the pit himself. That was no problem for the Florianis: they grabbed the hedgehog, rinsed the earth with some water and released it back into nature.
