Sighted in Carinthia – hunters photographed wolves and a brown bear

Date:

A pack of wolves and a brown bear roam a Gailtaler Alm in Carinthia. Two hunters photographed the animals.

With the start of the hunting season, sightings of large carnivores in Carinthia increase. In the Gailtal, wolves are nothing unusual for the head of the Görtschacher Alm hunt, Otmar Wallner: “I have often seen individual wolves, but never a pack of five.” On the morning of May 1, Wallner saw the wolves, three gray and two black beasts at his alpine hut. The hunter tried to frighten the wolves with clapping and screaming.

Wallner: “Shortly before, a farmer had also seen the platoon.” The next sighting followed in the evening. “A fellow hunter was even able to observe eight wolves at his hideout.” The 81-year-old hunter reacted wittily, took out his mobile phone and photographed the animals from the high chair.

However, wolves are not the only large carnivores currently prowling the meadows in the Untergailtal. “At the neighboring hunt, a brown bear was also photographed by a hunter on May 1,” says the hunting chairman to “Krone”: “Because of the many sightings, the farmers here are already worried and restless, because the cattle drive is slowly approaching.”
