On Wednesday, more than 30 investigators from the Frankfurt Public Prosecutor’s Office, the German Federal Criminal Investigation Department (BKA) and the Hamburg State Criminal Investigation Department searched a suspected oligarch hunt in the Hanseatic city of Hamburg.
The operation also involved the German Federal Police and naval experts. The investigation is directed “against an entrepreneur from the Russian Federation on suspicion of violating the Foreign Trade Act”, according to the Public Prosecution Service and the BKA.
According to information from the German news agency dpa, it concerns the luxury yacht “Luna”, which the BKA assigns to the Russian businessman Farchad Achmedow. The 67-year-old has been on a list of people subject to EU sanctions for the Russian attack on Ukraine for a year.
Contrary to EU sanctions list
The Frankfurt public prosecutor’s office declined to comment on the suspect’s identity. The 67-year-old is suspected of violating the obligation to report assets to the Deutsche Bundesbank and the Federal Office of Economics and Export Control after being placed on the EU sanctions list. He would not have declared “significant assets” to the authorities in Germany.
The “Luna” had already been detained by the authorities in Hamburg in the spring of last year. The 115-meter long ship was last docked at the shipyard of the Hamburg shipbuilder Blohm+Voss, which belongs to the Lürssen Group.
