In Nassfeld (Carinthia), 17 fire brigades from four Carinthian districts are currently deployed. For an unknown reason, the roof of a currently closed hotel caught fire. It is difficult to use. The building is in danger of collapsing.
Fire brigades from the Hermagor district had to respond to a large fire on Saturday morning. For unknown reasons, the roof of a hotel caught fire.
According to information from “Krone”, the accommodation is currently closed. But the operation is extremely difficult for the fire brigade.
Snowy roads and strong winds
“It is very difficult to extinguish the fire. The access roads are difficult to pass due to the snow. “It is a real challenge,” says Christof Rohr, commander of the FF Hermagor, who is deployed together with his comrades. In addition, the sometimes strong winds would make fire-fighting efforts more difficult.
But it’s not just the snow-covered paths and the wind that cause difficulties for the fire brigade. Because the hotel is somewhat remote, the Florianis had to build a feeding line. The water comes from a snowmaking pond near the property.
A total of 150 firefighters from 17 fire brigades in the districts of Hermagor, Spittal an der Drau, Villach-Land and Villach-Stadt are present. Turntable ladders were also requested to support the firefighting activities. Using a crane, the roof section was opened, allowing a targeted firefighting attack to be carried out.
Police fire investigators also responded and have already begun investigating the cause of the fire. After about eight hard hours, the fire brigades were able to leave again.
