Attack on Putin? – Expert: “War now in an even more dangerous phase”

Date:

Russia accuses the Ukrainian leadership of an attempted attack on President Vladimir Putin: According to its own statements, Moscow wants to shoot down two Ukrainian drones aimed at the Moscow Kremlin. However, there is no independent evidence for this.

“The force of the impact was reminiscent of a thunderstorm,” residents of Serafimovich Street described the nighttime drone strike. And in the house on the embankment, residents talked about lightning in the sky and people working with flashlights on the Kremlin wall after the crash. According to eyewitnesses, the lights of the Kremlin and the Kremlin embankment are still off.

Failed cover-up attempt
Historian and Russia expert at the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute for Research on the Consequences of War Peter Ruggenthaler pinpoints a Kremlin cover-up. In addition to the fact that the street lights were extinguished, the fact that the incident was officially announced so late – presumably because it was no longer possible to keep the night event quiet for the population – speaks for this.

According to Ruggenthaler, the attack is a threatening gesture from Ukraine. According to the researcher, Kiev wants to show its power and show Moscow what the country is now capable of. “It is also willing to accept the risk of a counter-attack against Kiev and the center of power in Kiev – because it feels safe,” the Russia expert continued. This heralds a transition to a new, more dangerous phase of the war.

Of course, according to the historian, Kiev will not officially claim responsibility for the attack. Because, as is known, the US is trying to slow down Ukraine. It is a tightrope walk to threaten Russia from within and, on the other hand, not to alienate the allies.

provocation
According to the scientist, it cannot be ruled out that it was a provocation by the Kremlin with the aim of eventually eliminating the Ukrainian head of state Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who is currently in Finland. “The Russian side reserves the right to retaliate if they deem it appropriate,” the Russian leadership announced after the alleged attack.
