Recapture expected – Ukraine: Nuclear weapons are Putin’s latest prankster

Date:

Ukrainian presidential adviser Oleksiy Arestovych expects the Kherson region, which Russia had illegally annexed, to be recaptured in a month and a half at the latest. Russian President Vladimir Putin may try to force Ukraine to move troops north from Kherson. But he won’t succeed, said Arestovych. Arestovych said Putin could use nuclear weapons in February next year.

“I think Putin could use tactical nuclear weapons in February next year. That is his last joker,” Arestovych explains to the weekly “Die Zeit”. However, the people of Ukraine are not afraid of a nuclear threat, says the adviser to the Ukrainian presidential office. “Even if the Russians used 10-20 tactical nuclear missiles, it wouldn’t end the war.”

‘Don’t think Putin wants that’
Arestovych explains that Putin would then have to fire hundreds of tactical nuclear weapons. “But this amount would pose a threat to all of Europe, and the wind would also blow the fallout across borders.” If NATO countries are involved, there will be a response from the US. “The next stage would be nuclear war, the end of civilization. I don’t think that would be Putin’s wish.”

Arestovych was wary of rumors that Ukraine might be responsible for the Crimean Bridge explosion, which is important for Russia: “I really don’t think it was us.” For Putin, the attack on the bridge was the perfect justification to take the war to a new level. “Maybe it was the Russians themselves, or the Chechens. I don’t know.” In any case, the Russians urgently need a turnaround.

On Saturday morning, an explosion shook the 19-kilometer-long bridge connecting Russia to the Black Sea peninsula of Crimea, annexed by Moscow in 2014. The building, which is strategically and symbolically important to Russia, was badly damaged. According to official information from Moscow, four people have been killed.
