A medical milestone has been reached: after ten years of construction, the Med Uni Graz campus, one of the largest centers for medical research and education in Europe, has been completed. The imposing building will now be officially opened on 12 May.
It is certainly a major architectural project that radiates far beyond the borders of Styria. A total of approximately half a billion euros has been invested in the extensive project in the immediate vicinity of the LKH Academic Hospital. The planning phase is no less impressive: the area was developed over 20 years and finally built. After this tour de force, we can finally invite you to an open house this Friday.
14,000 square meters of research space
The large complex, designed by the Graz architects Riegler-Riewe Architekten, brings together the clinical institutes with the non-clinical institutes that were previously spread across the city. “This merger brings enormous benefits in terms of collaboration and for the spirit of innovation,” rector Hellmut Samonigg said with satisfaction to the APA. The building has a total of about 14,000 square meters of research space and another 10,000 square meters of teaching space for up to 5,000 students.
