Date:

At least eight people have been killed and 13 others injured after gunfire in a village in Serbia. A man shot at a group of people in the village of Dubona from a moving car on Thursday evening – a suspected 21-year-old perpetrator was found a little later.

Shocked after a gun attack near the town of Mladenovac, some 60 kilometers south of the capital Belgrade, the perpetrator shot a group of people with a rapid-fire weapon and then fled, the state news agency Tanjug reported, citing police. After a large-scale manhunt, his whereabouts could be found – he was eventually surrounded by a large contingent of police forces. The operation was still going on Friday morning.

Victims sat on a bench in the village center
The victims sat unsuspectingly on a bench in the center of the village, the daily newspaper “Blic” reported. The motive is still unknown – according to unconfirmed media reports, a police officer and his sister were among the victims. Interior Minister Bratislav Gasic went to the scene of the events on Friday evening. He described the act as a “terrorist act”. At first he did not go into detail.

Serbia was rocked on Wednesday by a massacre at a school in Belgrade. A 13-year-old student had shot eight classmates and a security guard. The police then took him into custody. Due to his age, the perpetrator is not yet of age in Serbia.
